BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION
Celebrating Black Excellence
Project 2020 in partnership with the Town of Boley presents "Self Made", a Black History celebration and book launch event featuring author CJ Kirkland, live performances, and readings from town historian Henrietta Hicks and Senator Kevin Matthews. The event will take place on the evening of February 4, at the Boley Community Center. Attendees will gain a broader understanding of Black History in Oklahoma and the significant role Boley played in our state and in America, sharing and celebrating the stories of men and women who made a difference in our town. Their stories reveal how they contributed to the preservation of Boley...and how we can, too. These events center around community and community-building creating converstations about social identities and equity through the arts. These type of events bring a sense of pride and togetherness and serve as the backbone for community sustainability and involvement.
Self Made is a creative non-fiction work comprised of personal narratives and stunning images, culminating in the understanding of the soul and spirit of Boley Residents: those who built this town and those who remain a part of its tapestry and truth. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go back to Project 2020 and the Town of Boley.
